Messiah Lutheran Midweek - The Building Blocks for a Strong Foundation

Wednesday nights from 5:00- 7:00 PM

There are many ways to build a strong foundation in God’s Word…I would like to share a building block for our children.  Our Messiah Lutheran Midweek program offers many different avenues for our children to grow in God’s Word and in their faith; the beauty of this program is that members of our congregation and even non-member parents have the opportunity to enrich their lives through interacting with the children and helping in the different areas.

The Building Blocks for Our Children:

  • Worship Skills…instilling in our children the different parts of the church year and what they mean and why we do them.  Encouraging them to be a part of church through participating in the readings, Creeds, singing, etc. on Sunday mornings.
  • Activities…the children learn teamwork while having fun and laughing together through games and/or crafts.  Building Christian friendships while they are in a church setting, so they can continue that friendship outside of church…where all types of influence linger.
  • Supper…interacting in a family style setting through eating and encouraging conversation and discussing different topics with the people at their table.  With 5-6 children, ranging from 1st through 5th grade and two adult table parents at each table.  The 6th through 8th grade (CIA youth group) spread out at along two long tables, along with their table parents.  We have the table parents and children mixed throughout, so a parent is not sitting with their child and siblings are not sitting with each other...this encourages the children to get to know other children and adults in our church.  The children are also having someone other than their parent listening to their Memory Work or letting their child slide by when it comes to eating the main meal and just getting dessert!  : )
  • Memory Work…practicing, reciting Bible Verses, The Lord’s Prayer, The Ten Commandments, The Creed, etc.,  which the children build on from year to year.  Repeating from the previous years and adding to make a stronger foundation based in God’s Word; growing into the Catechism for teachings for First Communion and Confirmation.  Having the parents sign off on what the children are going to recite to their table parent, builds a relationship and trust with other members of the congregation, having those adults as mentors in their Christian walk of life.
  • Bible Study...learning about God and Jesus through Bible lessons prepared by the teachers.  Opening the Bible and learning where different stories are and finding where the Books of the Bible are located.

We greatly appreciate our Messiah Lutheran Church “family” through encouraging our children, praying for the volunteers, children, parents and our program, through any monetary donations and stepping up when we ask for help.  Thank YOU!!

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.  And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”  Matthew 7: 24-27
